Learning From Leaders Featuring Hazel Ann Regis-Buckels
Hazel Ann Regis-Buckels is a retired track and field athlete, known primarily for running the 400 meters. She holds the National Record in the 400m for the country of Grenada. A 2005 graduate of Louisiana State University, she is a 10-time All-American, the record holder in the indoor 400m, and owns the second-best outdoor 400m time in the school’s history.
She made history by being the first Grenadian athlete to win a medal at the Pan-American Games (silver medal in Santo Domingo, 2003). In addition, she medaled at the Carifta Games (bronze, silver, and gold medalists), CAC Games (silver), and was an Olympic Games semi-finalist (Athens, 2004). She participated at the World Championships in 1999, 2003, and 2005 as well as the Summer Olympics in Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004).
After retiring from athletics, she transitioned into education where she served in various roles including teacher, dean of students, and assistant principal before becoming a principal in 2019.
