Wambui Gachunga is a dynamic and accomplished leader with a strong background in biomedical engineering and community engagement. Currently pursuing her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.

Her research is centered on global health issues, particularly in HIV risk mitigation. As a Graduate Research Assistant at the Parker HIV Lab, she investigates the relationship between the vaginal microbiome and HIV risk using cutting-edge ex-vivo stimulation and multi-omics techniques. She has also led significant projects like developing ultrasound-guided breast phantom products for medical training and nanoparticle-based therapeutics for cancer treatment.

Wambui’s leadership experience spans multiple roles, including serving as the Vice President of the Graduate Society of Women Engineers, where she fosters professional development for women in STEM. Her advocacy work shines in her role as a GLOW Ambassador for Women Empowering Nations, where she mentors young women, helping to bridge the gap between youth and health-related career opportunities.
